Most hygienic & comfortable cage bedding for older male guinea pigs?

Hi, I have been keeping guinea pigs for 12 years now, and have always used either straw or wood shavings as floor covering in their cages. Wood shavings have always proved the most hygienic and absorbent bedding, however I currently have two older males who are around 3 years old and I’m wondering whether wood shavings are really the best for them anymore.
The reason being that as guineas get older, their bodies tend to get closer to the floor and I have found that as this happens, males tend to get pieces of sawdust stuck in their “boy parts”, which I have to remove for them.
So, I’m thinking of switching to a different type of bedding which will not cause this problem so much, yet will still be absorbent so that they are not sitting in their wee etc., and will also be safe and comfortable for them.

Could anybody give me suggestions as to good bedding for older males which will prevent bits from becoming “lodged” and will be extra hygienic?

Fleece is your best option.
Your other is Carefresh brand bedding found in all petstores.
It’s far more expensive than fleece. Towels or mattress pads under the fleece will do the absorbing.
